Terms of service
Last updated October 30, 2026
These terms are the agreement between you and Jérémie Amstutz, Switzerland (“we”), for using mello: the mail, calendar, contacts and tasks service at mello.mx, its apps and this website. By creating an account or using mello, you accept them.
1Your account
- You must be at least 16 to use mello. While mello is invite only, you need an invitation to create an account.
- An account is for one person. Give accurate details, and keep your password to yourself; you’re responsible for what happens with your account.
- If you think someone else is using your account, change your password and tell us at hello@mello.mx.
2Plans
mello has a free plan and paid plans. Each plan’s features and limits, such as storage, are described when you choose it. We may change the free plan, including its limits, with at least 30 days’ notice.
3Payment
- Paid plans are billed in advance, monthly or yearly, at the price shown before you buy, including VAT where it applies. Payments are handled by our payment provider.
- A subscription renews automatically at the end of each period until you cancel it. You can cancel at any time in your account; your plan stays active until the end of the period you paid for, then moves to the free plan.
- Payments are not refunded for partial periods, except where the law gives you that right.
- We may change prices. A new price applies from your next period, and we tell you at least 30 days before; if you don’t accept it, you can cancel before it applies.
- If a payment fails and isn’t settled after we remind you, we may move your account to the free plan. If what you store is over the free plan’s limits, new mail may then be refused until you’re back under them.
4Acceptable use
Don’t use mello to:
- send spam, meaning bulk or unsolicited mail, or mail to lists that didn’t opt in;
- send phishing, malware, or messages that impersonate someone;
- break the law or the rights of others, including privacy and intellectual property;
- harass, threaten or exploit anyone, or share content that sexually exploits children;
- get around sending limits, probe or overload our systems, or access accounts that aren’t yours.
We may limit sending, suspend or close an account that breaks these rules, and report illegal content to the authorities. When we can, we warn you first and tell you why.
5Your content
Your mail, files, calendars and contacts remain yours. You give us only the permission we need to run the service: to store, process, transmit and display your content for you. How we handle it is described in our privacy policy.
6The assistant
The assistant’s suggestions and drafts are generated by AI and can be wrong. Check them before you rely on them: you decide what is sent, and you’re responsible for the messages you send. You can turn the assistant off in Settings.
7Availability and changes
We work to keep mello running and your data safe, but we can’t promise it will always be available or free of errors. We may need maintenance, and we may change, add or remove features. If we remove something important to a paid plan, we tell you in advance and you can cancel.
8Closing your account
You can close your account at any time. Before you do, you can take your mail, calendars and contacts with you over IMAP, CalDAV and CardDAV. We may close an account that seriously or repeatedly breaks these terms, or a free account that hasn’t been used for 12 months, after warning you by email at least 30 days before. Once an account is closed, its data is deleted as our privacy policy describes.
9Liability
mello is provided as it is. As far as the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damage, lost data or lost profits, and our total liability is limited to what you paid us in the 12 months before the claim. This doesn’t limit liability for intent or gross negligence, or any right the law doesn’t let us exclude.
10Changes to these terms
We may update these terms. For significant changes, we tell you by email at least 30 days before they apply. If you don’t accept them, you can close your account before then; if you keep using mello afterwards, the new terms apply.
11Law and disputes
These terms are governed by Swiss law. The courts at our place of residence have jurisdiction, unless the law gives you, as a consumer, the right to go to the courts where you live. Before that, please write to hello@mello.mx: most problems are quicker to solve together.
