HelpTroubleshooting

Mail isn’t arriving

Most missing mail is in another folder or view, or was moved by one of your settings. Go through these in order.

Look in other folders and views

  • Junk. If the message is there, open it and choose Not spam: it moves to your Inbox, and the filter learns from it.
  • The inbox view. Above the Inbox, People hides newsletters and notifications, and Unread hides what you’ve read. Switch to All.
  • Newsletters. With the Daily newsletter digest on, newsletters skip the Inbox and go to the Newsletters folder.
  • Archive and Trash. Open each, and search it for the sender’s address or a word from the subject.

Check your settings

In Settings → Auto-reply:

  • Filters: a rule can move a message to another folder, mark it read, delete it or forward it.
  • Blocked senders: mail from an address or @domain on this list goes straight to the Trash. Unblock it to get their mail again.
  • Forward my mail: if it’s on without Keep a copy here, your mail goes to the other address only.

In Settings → Aliases, check the private address the sender wrote to: mail to an address that’s turned off is refused. See private addresses.

Check the sending side

  • The address. Ask the sender how they wrote yours: one wrong letter sends it elsewhere, or back to them.
  • Your old address. Mail sent to your old Gmail, Outlook, iCloud or Yahoo address reaches mello only if forwarding is set up there: see move from Gmail and the guides for the others.
  • A bounce. If the sender got an error message back, its text says why. Mail to an address that doesn’t exist or is turned off, and mail that is plainly spam, are refused this way.
  • A delay. Mail from a server that looks doubtful can be held back for a few minutes the first time; the sending server tries again on its own.
  • A full mailbox. Each mailbox has a storage limit. When yours is full, new mail is turned away for now and the sending server tries again later. Delete large messages you don’t need, and empty the Trash.

Still missing

Write to hello@mello.mx with the sender’s address, roughly when it was sent, and its subject. If the sender got a bounce, include its text. That’s what we need to find the message on our side.

Still need help?

Write to hello@mello.mx with your mello address and what happened. If you can’t sign in, write from another address.
