Get notified about new mail

The webmail can show a notification when mail reaches your Inbox, even while mello is closed. You turn it on once on each device.

Turn on notifications

  1. Sign in to the webmail at mail.mello.mx. On iPhone and iPad, add it to your Home Screen first and open it from there (see below).
  2. Open Settings → Notifications and turn on New mail on this device.
  3. Allow notifications when your browser or device asks.
  4. Choose send a test (or press t) to check that they arrive.

Right after you sign in, mello may also ask Get notified about new mail?: turn on does the same.

Install the webmail as an app

On iPhone and iPad, notifications only work from the Home Screen icon, not in a Safari tab. There, Settings → Notifications says Add mello to your Home Screen first.

  • iPhone and iPad: open mail.mello.mx in Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen, then open mello from its new icon.
  • Android: in Chrome, open the menu (⋮), choose Add to Home screen, then Install. Notifications work in Chrome without installing too.
  • Mac: in Safari, choose File → Add to Dock; in Chrome or Edge, use the install button in the address bar. Notifications work in a browser tab too.
  • Windows and Linux: in Chrome or Edge, use the install button in the address bar, or stay in a tab: notifications work in both.

What they show

A notification shows the sender and the subject, nothing else. Clicking it opens mello.

They come for new mail in your Inbox only: not for Junk, not for mail a filter moved to another folder or marked read, and not for newsletters and mailing lists, unless you also turn on Also for newsletters and mailing lists. Both switches apply to the device you set them on. Signing out of the webmail stops notifications in that browser.

The same tab has the Daily newsletter digest: see newsletters.

If they don’t arrive

  • Blocked for this site: you declined notifications once. Allow them for mail.mello.mx in your browser’s site settings, then turn the switch on again.
  • Notifications aren’t available in this browser: use a recent version of Safari, Chrome, Edge or Firefox.
  • Nothing after send a test: check that Focus or Do Not Disturb is off, and that your device allows notifications for the browser or the mello app. Then turn the switch off and on again.
