Get started with mello
This article takes you from your invite to a working mailbox, and points to what’s worth setting up first.
Accept your invite
mello is invite only for now. Your invite is a link: open it in your browser.
- Enter your first and last name. They show with your address in the mail you send.
- Under Your address, type the part before the @. mello tells you right away whether it’s available. If the invite already names your address, it’s shown there instead.
- Choose a password of at least 12 characters, and type it again under Confirm password.
- Choose Create account.
An invite works once and expires on the date shown under the form. If the link no longer opens, or says the invite is no longer valid, ask whoever invited you for a new one, or write to hello@mello.mx. If you were given an address and a password instead of a link, your account already exists: just sign in.
Creating your account signs you in and opens your inbox. Next time, go to mail.mello.mx and enter your full address and your password. The same address and password work in mail apps on your phone and computer: see sign in and manage your password.
If your browser can show notifications, mello asks Get notified about new mail? right after you sign in. Choose turn on or not now; you can change it later in Settings → Notifications.
What to set up first
- Your name and signature: in Settings → General.
- A recovery address: so you can reset a forgotten password yourself.
- Your mail from before: forward new mail and copy your old mail from Gmail, Outlook, iCloud or Yahoo.
- Your phone and computer: iPhone, iPad and Mac, Android, or other mail apps.
- Notifications: get notified about new mail, on iPhone too.
- Private addresses: a separate address for each sign-up.
- An assistant: connect ChatGPT or Claude to your mailbox.
